Mms. I feel I might have a snippet coming on.

Now where shall it be from? I could post a small passage from ‘The Sword of Shadows’, my second book in the science fantasy series. Or maybe a snippet from the as yet unnamed sequel to Darkspire Reaches. Maybe I should consider ‘Angelus’, my science fiction stand alone, or maybe one of my urban fantasies? Either Wildenwold or Widdershins might fit the bill. And then there is my epic fantasy, ‘Graylings Deep’. Decisions, decisions.

While ‘The Sword of Shadows’ is complete and already with my publisher, the others are works in progress, and yes, I am working on all of them. The only thing I have on the back burner is another book in the ‘Shadow’ series. It is almost complete, but no, there won’t be any snippets from that one any time soon as I don’t imagine my publishers would appreciate spoilers becoming public.

I will think on it tomorrow.

Shadow Over Avalon

I have just found out how to get my trailer for Shadow Over Avalon on to my website. It wasn’t working before as I have a full site here and not just a blog. Now it works. Yay!

Shadow Over Avalon.

Joyful day coming up.

I get to spend the day with my delightful grandson while my daughter goes to a spa with a friend. He is such a happy little camper and she will leave me with multiple bottles of milk. This is not going to be a problem, as little Georgie already took his first bottle of milk from me. I love that I can give my daughter some quality time and a break. I also love that I will be spending quality time with my little guy.

What to take with me? I am debating between my laptop and a ring binder and pen. I won’t be on the web, but Georgie will be sleeping some of this time, so maybe I can still work when he does this? I don’t anticipate getting much done. Babies take priority always. And then I will have a to do list to accomplish for my dear daughter. That particular day is my husband’s birthday and my daughter is hosting a supper for us and other family. I volunteered for prep, which will get priority over writing, when Georgie is not awake.

I am thinking Nana is going to be busier than she is used to being. Loving it.

Oh Look, Snowing Again.

That raised structure in the middle of my yard is currently known as a raised snow elevator. The slightly smaller mound in the front would be the same level of snow on the seat of what once was and will be again a picnic table. You will note the snow on the ground exceeds the level of the top of the seat. I calculate around three feet deep, although I am not going out there to find out. It will be interesting to see if the remains of the seat are lost when the snow eventually stops.

Resolutions for 2014

I am ashamed to have to admit I have five half finished books. This is not good. Must work harder.

1. Finish one book off every month. This is possible.

2. Work on house renos. With daylight increasing I should be able to get stuff finished. Artificial light means I miss bits. Sigh.

3. Work on weight loss. I have lost 14lbs but then I hit a plateau. Nothing gained back, which is good, but I need to be more active. This means using the treadmill. I can do this.

4. Work on a better way to promo my books.

5.Start working on artwork again. Maybe I haven’t got the fine control I once enjoyed, but I can still gain joy out of this hobby.

6. Get my act together and get moving on the quilting projects I have planned. I have the materials, so there is no excuse.

7. Plant seeds for the growing season to come. I can’t do much, as I don’t have the space, but I can get the early starters going. Maybe I will have another Claude, the petunia this year?

8. Get out to do the yardwork very early in the morning before the new neighbors, the ‘mumbles’ are out and about. I really don’t need my creativity mangled by the site of a seventy year old woman in a crop top and low cut shorts. Shudders. I wouldn’t wear anything like that in public view.

9. Get some quality time in with my little grandson. He is such a good baby and he is growing so fast.

Now I am committed.

Fun Artwork Challenge.

There is a lot of indoors happening in the Northern hemisphere this time of year and it is a great moment to take out the art supplies. Just for fun, who would like to try their hand at giving a picture of what some of my characters look like? The main characters in Shadow Over Avalon are Arthur and Ashira. In Darkspire Reaches, they are Raven, Connor and Kryling. Of course, a person could pick any charcter in their normal setting, or freestanding.

This is just for everyone to see how all perceives these characters and won’t, in any way, be used in a book by me. The pictures may be posted here. Just put your name, or designated tag on the body of the picture, and who it represents, so it cannot be pirated. I would love to see what you all think. It can be in any medium, but please, no stock images, which are licensed and need to be paid for.

I will start you off with one I have just finished for a Work In Progress. Image

And here is the first. A picture of Raven, from Darkspire Reaches by Gillian O’Rourke.

Apparently my site is not being cooperative so can pictures please be posted on my Facebook Page at https://www.facebook.com/C.N.Lesley. Thanks.

Health options

Another little poppet I have discovered is that pasteurised cow’s milk promotes mucus. My asthma has been so much better since I cut this out of my diet.  Coconut Silk is an excellent substitute for a creamer in my coffee. I don’t miss milk in the slightest.

On another note, I have substituted organic coconut sugar for cane sugar.  This is so much sweeter than cane sugar, with minuscule calories. It is also a million times healthier than artificial sweeteners, which invariably mean aspartame; originally an ant poison and a very effective one, too. Think carefully about what you put into your system and the effects it might have.

I have hit a plateau in my weight loss program. I am down 14lbs since I started my new regime and that has now remained steady to my chagrin. The weather is not with me, but this is no excuse as I have a treadmill in the basement. I am a slug. I need to exercise more, but my arthritic knees are not getting with the program in winter.  This comes down to an old, work related injury I was silly enough not to claim against the WCB at the time. Anyone reading this, don’t make my mistake. It will come back to bite you.

What I have found out is my eating choices were spot on. I cheated over xmas with dairy products and with complex manufactured carbohydrates. For every action, there is a reaction. I spent most of yesterday popping pain killers. No, my cheating was not worth the immediate consequences. No, I did not have fun. Yes, I found out all over again why these food groups are not a good idea for me. I had been craving these things but I doubt I will ever crave the again. Lesson learned.
