November

The first day today and that means two things. The first is that there are precisely 51 more days until the winter solstice when the daylight starts growing instead of shrinking. That is a milestone as I don’t like the huge darkness of this time of year a lot. Right now it is about 8.10 am and not a trace of dawn in the sky. This will be even worse next Sunday when 8 will become 7. Then the days really feel too short. On the flip side, I don’t believe I would like to live near the equator much as I had a big problem in Hawaii when the evenings were dark by six and dawn came long after I was up. I like my long summer days.

The second thing November means is the start of National Novel Writing Month, otherwise known as NaNo. Yes, I have enrolled and am working on the third book in the Darkspires series, entitled Writhe of Wurms.  Yes, I have actually written about five hundred words so far and am liking where the story is taking me. No, I have no idea what is going to happen. I am a pantzer and it will unfold to me as I write.

Strangely enough, this was not a book I intended to write after I finished Darkspire Reaches, which was supposed to be a stand alone novel. However, there was a certain expectation from my publishers that there would be a sequel and I will admit to prevarication until I saw the comments in the reviews for Darkspire Reaches. While I will never respond, I always take notice and I saw people were asking questions about the world, in particular the Shangrove and also wondering about a sequel, so I go to thinking about what would happen next. This book was so much fun to write and now I guess I am thinking about a third in the series. Maybe I’ll call that one Wurms of the World. We will see.Serpent 1-page1

Five star review for Serpent of the Shangrove.

Serpent of the Shangrove

5 out of 5 stars What a wonderful world! January 5, 2017
What a wonderful world(s) Ms. Hull has created! I love anything to do with dragons, so I was instantly swept up in the adventure from the gate. I loved Kryling! Such an adorable companion. It was an excellent treatment of the lengths jealousy and hatred can send people. And who hasn’t had a childhood love turned sour? In this case, the two combine to send the hero out into a fast-paced quest for justification. The imagination in creating the worlds is impressive and the layers are complex. I recommend this book for anyone who likes well-constructed high fantasy defined by strong characters.

My year in review.

Looking back, it has been a very busy year. On the writing front, I have two new books published. The first, in spring, was Serpent of the Shangrove, book two in the Darkspires series and yes, I am planning a book three.Serpent-of-the-Shangrove-Digital-Cover-1-641x1024

What is this one about? Here is the trailer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WMwPuG0FEys

The second book came out just before Christmas and is the third book in the Shadow series, entitled Chalice of the Shadows. Yes, there is a fourth book in the series and I have just finished writing it, so now need to do some editing. That one will be called Staff of the Shadows.

Here is the trailer for Chalice. I haven’t made one for the Staff as of yet.

On a personal level we welcomed our first granddaughter, who is a joy after three dear little boys. It is amazing to watch them all develop into tiny people as time passes.

Looking forward to next year, I have a story in a dragon anthology coming out at Easter and I have a Paranormal Fantasy, entitled ‘Shift’ that has been with the Publishers since the earlier part of this year so I hope that will come out, too, along with Staff of Shadows. I guess the latter is dependent on if there is room in the schedule.

What I plan to get finished next year are a Science Fiction book, entitled ‘Death Angel’ and an Urban Fantasy, entitled for the moment as ‘Wildenwold’ although I think that is going to alter. I also have a story to finish for another anthology prospect and that must be done very soon if it is to stand a chance.

It is nice to be able to look forward to the New Year and be fairly confident there isn’t going to be a third world war started by cranky people, who are fortunately no longer going to have any influence. Hopefully, people will lighten up and start being nice to each other again.

5 star review for Serpent of the Shangrove

Woo Hoo! Does Happy Dance!
on September 22, 2016
This is my second book by this author, and I was just as speechless after I was through reading this book as I had been after reading the first. Before continuing, I’ve got to say, hats off to any author of fantasy and magic, and double hats off to this author.
The book begins without preamble. I was thrown right into the trouble and mistrust that seem to plague Copper from birth. He had been able to ignore it, but in this instance he found it difficult coming from the one he’d least expect, Rosella, his childhood mate. It hurt even more when his friends stood by and did nothing. (But I’m jumping ahead of myself). The pace was set, and the reader is taken on a fast-paced ride, which sometimes have you reeling, and holding on to the edge of your seat. As a non-fantasy reader, I held on, and got so into it, I was sadly disappointed when it came to an end. But the truth of the matter is, even in fantasy worlds, jealousy, strive, and mistrust still exist when it comes to those that are different to what’s accepted or expected as the norm. Envision the possibility, a world ruled by serpents and Shangroves: “We coversss the whole worldsss sooon and then no more peoplesss, only ssserpentsss and Sssshangroves I highly recommend this book to fantasy readers.

Another five star review for Darkspire Reaches. Woo Hoo!

Awe inspiring fire breathers, ancient magic, and a lonely young girl who grows to become a fierce, strong heroine. Exciting read! http://amzn.to/1S1LUIIColor Dragon
Read that one? Here is the next in the series. Serpent of the Shangrove.  http://amzn.to/1P9W4T3
And one of the five star reviews it has earned.

This story kept me reading into the small hours of the morning. Gripping story, with a good development of characters, I grew fond of Raven, the female protector who is as much a mother as she is a warrior.

I felt the Drakkens’ pain was well expressed in Connor’s mishap, Cooper’s struggles to become a man and in Rosella coming of age learning compassion in a harsh and horrible manner.

Their world is not an easy one with conflict waiting around every bend. Yet this is a story we can also reflect to today’s times and bring into our own world. Food for thought. After all, most people will find preferable to learning any lesson we encounter along the way in a more tasteful manner—prevention being the ounce we can take. Well done!

Great review for Serpent of the Shangrove

DB reviewed Serpent of the Shangrove
Thrilling fantasy tale… 25 June 2016
Although not my genre I enjoyed this book…. Raven and Connor begin their new life …. Conner, their son is considered a half breed and is extremely effected by the hurtful words of the full Drakken , Rosella, who he has feelings for. The author did a masterful job with the developments, twists and turns throughout this fantasy world. I
was actually disappointed when it ended. I wanted more. If my guess is correct, I think there will be another book. A great read.

Serpent of the Shangrove is live now

Serpent-of-the-Shangrove-Digital-Cover-1-641x1024Copper is now a fully grown Drakken, but despite his magical abilities, he is shunned and shamed by his pure-blood kin.
Wandering despondent in the wilderness, Copper discovers a portal that reminds him of his lost crèche mate, left behind when the Drakkens fled their ancestral home. Knowing the portal will only remain open for three short days, Copper cannot resist the challenge to bring the lost maiden to safety, and prove himself worthy of his breed.

But the other world is not what he and his kin expected. The peoples are hostile, the Angressi emperor has not forgotten his grudge, and something is killing Samara Maidens.

In this eagerly anticipated sequel to her bestseller, Darkspire Reaches, CN Lesley transports us back into the world of Drakkens, of Connor and Raven, and of their son.

Deep in the Shangrove—a dark place that feeds on creatures of magic—a new evil is growing, waiting for the perfect mate.

And here it is. The official cover release of Serpent of the Shangrove along with comments from Kristell Ink.

2016 looks to be an exciting year. We have some excellent pieces scheduled for release and today we’re sharing with you the cover for C.N Lesley’s Serpent of the Shangrove, her follow-on novel to the hugely successful Darkspire Reaches.
Evelinn Enoksen has captured (again!) the feel of the novel entirely. Nature, lush yet dark and dangerous.

More details coming soon, but for the time being, C. N Lesley has written a little bit about the book. This isn’t the official blurb, but when we asked her to sum up the story in a few paragraphs, this is what she said:

Given one chance to find the fate of a crèche mate, Copper grasps the challenge to save her and to prove himself worthy to the other Drakkens, who look down on him as a half-breed, despite his full array of magic abilities. The other world is not as he expected and the races living there don’t seem to have honor. Then he finds the Serpent, a creature of pure evil. Who will live? Who will die? One of them will not walk away.
