I sat down one morning after purchasing the kindle version of the book and spent the day reading this adventurous, romantic fantasy. Darkspire Reaches has originality, great pacing and characters who are likeable and engaging. The premise follows Raven on her journey to discover who and what she is. The Wyvern of the tale has been hunting her since her birth, but not is all as it seems and I won’t say much as I don’t want to spoil anything!
Raven is initially quite docile and reserved, but as the story progresses, her confidence builds and her potential comes forth. Connor is mysterious and not without fault – his holding back the truth causes grief to himself and Raven. And Kryling, the characterful firedrake, occasionally steals the show with his antics. I definitely have a soft spot for him now!
Overall, a very entertaining read, with great world-building, characters and storyline. There are some very interesting aspects to this book, the Samara Maidens and the Emperor, and I’d love to know more about these back stories. I’m hoping for another instalment so I can find out a little more about them, as well as Raven and Connor, and will be keeping an eye out for it!
